Williams-Electric-TeamInstall a home generator for power independence,  a pg&e power transfer switch,  a generator transfer switch to make sure you have power when no one else does on your block!   When your power goes out, the generator kicks on and you are the only one on the block with lights, tv, and internet.  Pge will turn power off soon enough, due to wind on the lines.  Install a power transfer switch, a generator power transfer switch, in Oakland, berkeley, orinda, etc.    We run conduit to the  panel most important to your house, the things you need the most, ie, refrigerator, tv, internet, lights, and route that panel through a power transfer switch, and then route that to your generator.  Can be done with a 30 amp 240 volt outlet or a 50 amp 240 volt outlet.  Depending upon which generator you buy or whether you use a pad mounted, more permanent type.

Gasoline generators are more dangerous due to: co carbon monoxide exhaust, compared to water based exhaust for propane or natural gas generators, heat from exhaust can start fires and is more explosive due to extra gas cans near by, and less safe storage vs. propane tanks, and natural gas galvanized lines feeding the generator.

Dangers of generators: co exhaust from gas can kill, electrocution if feet are wet and leakage current, fire risk due to hot exhaust facing flammable surfaces, near by gasoline storage extra tanks are dangerous, generator facing into windows, or inside garages, or doors can kill due to co2 exhaust for gasoline generators.

The pros of a gasoline  generator are: they are portable, cost less to install, and more flexible than a pad mounted.

Cons of natural gas: earth quake or fire, etc, can knock out the gas lines that have earthquake shut off valves, that run a pad mount, and also, the pad mount is the most expensive least flexible option.  How to reset an earthquake shut off valve: they have a screw driver slot, that you rotate clockwise a bit to turn them back on, and a color shows: red for off, green for on.
